The HDC was formed for the purposes of becoming a vehicle
through which the Hispanic community can unite to advance, access, consolidate
and influence the resources that will provide for its development and enrichment.
It
has always encouraged the development and advancement of its members through
the areas of economic, education, leadership, and health, philanthropic and corporate
participation along with volunteerism, and involvement in charitable and civic
organizations.
Cultural awareness and opportunities for recognizing individuals
that exemplify the purpose of HDC are provided through the Annual “Portraits of Success” luncheon
held during Hispanic Heritage Month in September. We are celebrating our 25th
anniversary this year, and to date approximately one hundred ten individuals
have been recipients of this exemplary award.
The Hispanic Youth Leadership Conference
also provides the opportunity for high school students to meet the annual recipients
being honored along with professional mentors that continue to encourage higher
education and the trades. During the last sixteen years, approximately three
thousand students have participated and many have returned as mentors and/or
volunteers.
