FESTIVAL SCHEDULE
This year the Festival is excited to celebrate and tell the story of the
women of mariachi and the “cancion ranchera” – the Mexican
song of the countryside – throughout our festival events. As our festival
press release explains below, our Gala Mariachi Concert will present a tribute
to three women pioneers of mariachi whose singing and passionate artistry have
inspired millions – Lucha Reyes, Amalia Mendosa and Lola Beltran. And it
is the singers themselves, perhaps, who can explain why their voices and the
cancion ranchera should be celebrated and remembered – by recalling the
words of Amalia Mendosa:
Lo importante es que uno viva lo que está cantando..." "(The
important thing is that one lives what one is singing...)"
