Monthly Topic, August 3, 2010: Alternative Education: Exploring Waldorf, Montessori and Homeschooling Philosophies
Location: Cambrian Library in the community room
Ever wondered what the differences are between the Waldorf and Montessori approaches? Have you considered Homeschooling but are not sure where to start? Join our panel of Educators for a presentation/discussion on the different education options available in the South Bay. Representatives from local schools and homeschool cooperatives will be in attendance to answer our many questions. Feel free to invite friends that may be interested in this topic and introduce them to HMN.
Holistic Moms Network (HMN)
members share a common bond: a desire to be the best parents possible by providing
our children with a physical, psychological, and spiritual environment that will
nourish them and allow them to reach their greatest potential. To nurture our
children, we strive to educate ourselves and to make choices that will enable
them in mind, body, and spirit.
Children in today's world face increasing challenges
and risks and we, as parents, must commit to staying informed of the most serious
dangers and the greatest opportunities that affect our children, so that we can
make the best decisions on their behalf. We feel that protecting and nurturing
our children is our single most important responsibility.
We, as women, also seek
to empower ourselves as individuals and as parents. We want to be informed of
our options and to be free to make the choices that best suit our families and
that make a positive impact on the world. Many of us tuned into natural, holistic
health in parenthood. As we set on the path to discover the best for our children,
we have also learned how to optimize our own health and well-being through education,
knowledge, and support. We realized that we can only be teachers and role models
to our children if we are first informed and healthy individuals ourselves.
Coming
together as holistic parents and supporting one another empowers us through support,
validation, and education. Providing the opportunity to learn and grow together
enables us to make the best decisions we can, affirms our choices, and creates
a wonderfully diverse community for us to participate in. Through our HMN chapters,
we hope to renew and reinvigorate ourselves and each other, learn from one another,
and to share in our passion for holistic and green parenting.
