Consumer Affairs Representative

THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION WANTS YOU!

Calling Bilingual Speakers of English and Spanish, Chinese Cantonese or Mandarin, Korean or Vietnamese

Work as a Consumer Affairs Representative (CAR) for the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which regulates privately owned electric, natural gas, telecommunications, and water utilities, as well as railroad, rail transit, and passenger transportation companies. As a CAR you will receive, investigate and resolve consumer complaints. Applicants should have at least one year of state service or three years of non-state experience resolving consumer complaints.

Since the CPUC is a state agency, you will have to go through the state civil service process, which involves taking an examination. It’s not as intimidating as it sounds!

Welcome to the California Public Utilities Commission.
Californians spend more than $38 billion annually for services from the utility industries regulated by the CPUC! At the Commission, you will get to work on important regulatory policy issues that affect all California consumers and the utilities that serve them. Our headquarters is in San Francisco and we have offices in Sacramento and Los Angeles. We need talented, dedicated people to complement our existing team who work in a family-friendly environment on behalf of consumers and the state's economy!

Apply/Contact:
Please go to www.cpuc.ca.gov, click on the “Jobs” link, then link to “Exams Open to All.” Scroll down to “Consumer Affairs Representative.” Read through the information provided and download the application located towards the bottom of the bulletin. Submit your application by May 5th to be considered for testing in mid-May 2006.
