Guest Experience Ambassador
The GE Ambassador is a critical liaison with Monterey Bay Aquarium guests
to strategically stimulate and direct their interest in aquarium programs, marine
biology, ocean conservation and a relationship with the MBA. Ambassadors interact
with aquarium guests to create a personalized and memorable experience from pre-entry
through exit. Ambassadors work both independently and as part of a team to welcome,
orient, educate and connect with individual guests and groups of guests, including
school groups, throughout their visit. Ambassadors may assist GE Programs staff
on microphone, and will work with Security staff and Information Desk staff to
assist visitors with special needs. Provide the highest degree of customer service
to all aquarium guests. Provide information to enhance guests’ aquarium
experiences (e.g. wayfinding; aquarium mission, exhibits, animals, and programs;
marine biology, ecology and conservation issues; membership benefits; Aquarium
Adventure opportunities; website; upcoming promotions; other relevant Monterey-area
opportunities). Work with the Education Programs staff to design and deliver
engaging and effective orientations for school and sales groups. Assist with
school group needs in the aquarium and on the grounds (galleries, Hovden Way,
bus turn-around, picnic area. Work with GE Programs and Training staff to deliver
educational and entertaining programs to family audiences on the outer deck and
in exhibit galleries. Perform light animal care duties, including feeding, cleaning
and record keeping. Troubleshoot and diffuse potentially negative situations
with minimal supervision, as well as coordinate efforts between other departments
directly involved. Engage in reflective/wrap-up dialogues with individuals, families
and groups prior to departure. Assist with other projects as requested by the
Supervisor/Manager.
High school graduate, some college preferred. Excellent interpersonal
skills. Knowledge of and strong enthusiasm for local marine species, habitats
and conservation. Exceptional ability to sustain enthusiastic interactions with
both guests and staff in a variety of contact situations. Ability to speak effectively
and engage both adult and family audiences. Ability to work both independently
and as a member of a team. Bilingual/Spanish proficiency highly preferred.
